Surf Film Festival

The first-ever Mill Valley Surf Film Festival takes place at the Sweetwater Music Hall this Saturday. Expect an awesome array of surf films that celebrate big wave-riding, the daredevils who do it, and the ocean's beauty. A gathering of local artists, musicians, and ocean-related charities will be present and San Francisco's the Merman will be taking the stage once the last film wraps. Sat 10/20, 12 p.m. - 10 p.m. 19 Corte Madera Ave, Mill Valley.

Ghost Town Tour in Santa Rosa

A residential neighborhood in Santa Rosa turns into a full-on haunted ghost town complete with tombstones, monsters, creepy pumpkins, and a corn maze. This year's theme is "Revenge of the Witch" and close to 10,000 people are expected to show up. Not convinced? Wicked West Ghost Town has been voted one of the Top 5 Haunts in the World! Check the website for a complete list of nightly haunted happenings. Jose Ramon Avenue, Santa Rosa.

Hike to the German Tourist Club

Have you celebrated Oktoberfest yet? If not, get out the lederhosen and trek over to the little house nestled in the woods near Mount Tam. A short and easy hike will drop you into the German Tourist Club, where you can booze on German beers while enjoying million dollar bird's-eye views towards the Pacific. A few hiking-type snacks are available (like beef jerky or big fat dill pickles). Go early so you and your group can grab a seat at one of the communcal picnic tables. (Be forewarned, the club is closed Sunday 10/22.) 30 Ridge Avenue, Mill Valley.
