Kick off 2014 with a little trip across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Kite Making at Tomales Bay

Take advantage of the temperate winter weather and go fly a kite this weekend. On Saturday the Tomales Bay State Park will provide free materials to anyone who wants to build a customized flyer. Then let your gorgeous creation soar at Millerton Point overlooking the scenic Tomales Bay. Take along a picnic for the perfect day outdoors. Saturday, January 4. 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Millerton Point, Tomales Bay State Park.

The Seafood Class

Learn how to properly prepare seafood fresh from the Pacific at this class taught by ITK Culinary in Sausalito. The class will focus on classic preparations of Mussels in White Wine served with a crunchy loaf of bread, Classic Sole Meuniere lightly breaded and tossed with lemon butter, Seafood Chowder with a base of seafood stock for thick, creamy goodness, Shrimp Scampi tossed with pasta and red chili flakes, and Butterscotch Pudding (because I don’t think a good seafood dessert exists). Yum!  Saturday, January 4. 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. 300 Turney St., Sausalito. $95 Get tickets here.

A Downton Abbey Evening

Attend a Downton Abbey evening on Sunday for a chance to meet one of the stars of the show and enjoy a reserved seat for the premiere of season 4. The evening begins with a formal dinner at The Image Flow in Mill Valley with special guest Downton’s cook Mrs. Patmore (actress Lesley Nicol). Afterwards luxury cars will drive you to the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center for a conversation on stage with Leslie Nicol and Zoë Elton (MVFF Director of Programming). Finally, you'll get to sit back and watch the premiere of Downton Abbey Season 4! Come in period costume and you can even win a prize from Sofia Jewelry. Sunday January 5. 5:00 – 11:00 p.m. 401 Miller Ave. Suite A, Sausalito. $250. Get tickets here.
