If you’re one to appreciate shopping with a side of charcuterie (or fashion with a food cart tie-in), keep reading. Salty sustenance and style will merge on Thursday night, when The Butcher’s Daughter (a.k.a. Julie Schaller of New York’s Schaller & Weber lineage) debuts her new German meat sampling service for parties and events at Mission boutique Mira Mira. A trunk show featuring L.A.-based designer Suzy Lequeux’s rock chic Rossmore jewelry line and the shop’s first-ever sale only make the evening even, uh, meatier.
You may have spotted Schaller (above), who’s worked at Marina Meats and studied with Dave the Butcher, camped out near the Palace of Fine Arts in recent weeks manning a vintage food cart designed decades ago by her dad. Now both the cart and Schaller are available for events and private parties through her freshly-launched (so new, the web site’s still in the works) catering biz, which pairs her family’s sausages, pates and other meats with wines, breads and cheeses. Owing to the shop’s diminutive size, she’ll be without cart on Thursday. But she’ll be bringing her undisputed passion for East Coast-style German meats in full force, along with a menu that includes Landjager stick salami and Oldenburger liver pate.
“I’ve been eating pigs tails and knuckles since I was a little girl…Instead of having a ice pop in my hand, I’d have a hotdog,” says Schaller, whose family has owned Schaller & Weber meats since the 1930’s.
At the same time, shop visitors will find Rossmore’s understated designs featuring iconic shapes such as hearts, teeth and bars in silver and gold on display. One-of-a-kind pieces not available elsewhere will be part of the mix, as will a special reason to get there early: Lequeux will gift the first 25 to arrive with one of her signature wishie bracelets.
Last but not least, the evening is an opp to shop the boutique’s first (ever) sale. Spring and summer merchandise from indie brands such as Clover Canyon and Chaser will be priced 20 to 40 percent off.
