Electronica Beat: Four May Madness Shows to Get Into

May is seriously going to be madness, promising to be pretty much a non-stop party full of DJ gigs (and Bay to Breakers!). So make sure you stretch, drink plenty of water and oh yeah, check out these upcoming happenings guaranteed to be good for the soul.

Danny Daze will headline the weekly BASE party at Vessel, bringing his grinding Hot Creations sound with him. The anticipated set from this seasoned Miami-raised DJ will have you craving those Latin rhythms with a dirty dose of techno. His climb to success, from a 13-year-old DJ to producing the laid-back gem Falling Away from Love released on Hot Creations, has given nods to Italo Disco and the bass-heavy undercurrent that resonates throughout Miami's nightlife. Supporting Daze is the tag-team style of Bells & Whistles, who celebrated their first release, a remix of Rekon's "Fly and Drive" for Mioli Music that's garnered the duo major props. BASE takes place on May 3. Grab tickets here.

TuTu Tuesday celebrates its fourth birthday this month, and we can't wait for this one. The debut of the House-Heads (Atish, Roddy and Mark Slee) will be off the hook, as these three come armed with fresh and rare grooves and an obvious love for quality dance music. Not to mention 222 Hyde's recently received, homemade audio-sensitive L.E.D. light rig from Mark Slee that, in our opinion, has transformed the floor into some sort of alien contact point (and that's a good thing). Combining all the colorful, tutu-ed attendees with such radiant, forward-thinking digital art, and three friends playing great music and you get one funkadelic birthday party. It all goes down on May 8 at 222 Hyde.

Swiss phenom DEETRON is set to appear at Public Works for the As You Like It party on May 19. Heavy on the sci-fi vibe, his music paints an ambient futuristic backdrop pulsing with relentlessly driving rhythms. Those seeking high energy should check out Mr. Smooth, released on Music Man Records for a look inside the mind of DEETRON. Supporting him will be the Berlin-based Camea, who, since the launch of her career in the early 2000s, has played the world over several times. San Francisco locals Rich Korach and Mossmoss will start the party off on the right foot to round out this great night. Get tickets here.

Maya Jane Coles was one of the breakout DJs of the year in 2011 thanks to her production work on tracks like "Humming Bird" for Hypercolour and the mid-90s influenced What They Say, released on Real Tone Records. On stage, she's earned her savvy reputation by playing only the freshest cuts on the dance floor. Her upcoming party at Monarch will be off the rails, and made even more so thanks to an appearance by Maceo Plex. This dude began DJing back in the late 90s and his recent Essential Mix for BBCs Radio One demonstrates the evolution of early techno, which transformed into soulful jams. His driving bass lines and funky undercurrents will shake up the club when he takes to the decks, no doubt playing some tunes from his 2011 album, Life Index. So there you have it, one time-tested veteran and the current Queen of House Music, back to back in the depths of Monarch on May 24. Get into it.
