Memorial Day Music: Slumberland Records' Showcase @ Rickshaw Stop

14 Iced Bears

If you're not jetting off to some tropical locale or retreating to the woods this Memorial Day Weekend, pack some earplugs and head to the Rickshaw Stop for SF Popfest's Slumberland Records Showcase tonight and Saturday. Oh, and don't forget to honor our fallen war heroes with plenty of stiff drinks, ice cold beers, and maybe a cheeseburger along the way.

Both nights see resurrections of two long-lost yet no less influential groups that wowed many hungry, savvy ears decades ago: Ireland's The Undertones–who championed 70s pop punk–and 14 Iced Bears, a group of shambling Brits touting damaged, dreamy indie pop from the 80s (who have also never played the West Coast). Leave it to Slumberland's visionary owner Mike Schulman–whose work we profiled a few months ago–to dredge up these gems for the rest of us to enjoy.

To round out the edges, the fest offers a healthy dose of local bands like Brilliant Colors, the wistful rock of The Art Museums, The Mantles, 7x7 fave Melted Toys, the Ramones-inspired raunch of Terry Malts, and Brill Building worshippers Kids on a Crime Spree. SoCal gets repped too, with Devon Williams the sun-fried Sea Lions, and more.

Grab tickets for tonight's show (The Undertones, The Mantles, Melted Toys, The Smittens) here. Tickets for Saturday's extravaganza, which starts bright and early at 5 pm, can be found here.
