Party Blotter: Music to Keep You Dancing All Night

Speedy J

Now that autumn is calendar-official, it’s time to enjoy summer’s last gasp by attending any or all of the following parties. These next two weeks feature hard-driving Berlin-style techno, warm and summery house music, creepy, moody darkness from the UK to get you in a Halloween mood, and a selection of the Bay Area’s finest DJs and producers -- something for everyone. See you on the dance floor!

HIDDEN MEASURE presents SPLATTER, Friday September 27, F8

Straight outta Berlin by way of Mexico comes Splatter, making his first San Francisco appearance at this week’s Hidden Measure party. Splatter has been quietly releasing his own brand of minimal techno since the early 2000s, borrowing bits and pieces from different strains of techno to create his own unique sound. There’s a definite unsettled, experimental undercurrent in his music, but it never veers too far off the deep end -- dark but not pitch black. Providing support are a bevy of talented locals: Daya, Alex Xipil, Worker/Parasite, Nackt, and Petko Nitkolov, all of whom will push the techno sound further off into the deep end. RSVP on Facebook for more information and purchase presales via Eventbrite. 9pm til late, $5 presales, $10 at the door.

SUNSET SOUNDSYSTEM, AS YOU LIKE IT & PUBLIC WORKS present INDIAN SUMMER BLOCK PARTY, Saturday September 28, Public Works

What better way to see summer off than a massive, day-to-night block party featuring some of the finest local and international talent around? This party pretty much has it all: if you like disco-inflected indie dance music, check out Woolfy; if you like old-school disco edits tuned for today’s audience, catch Tiger & Woods; if you’re into the intersection of UK bass and house music, don’t miss Midland; if you love the warm, lush, and deep house sound of Dixon and the Innervisions crew, make sure to see Henrik Schwarz; and if you can’t get enough industrial-strength banging techno, Speedy J will deliver exactly that. Locals Solar, Galen, J-Bird, Rich Korach, Mossmoss, Bells & Whistles, Jason Kendig and Conor round out the lineup and will keep the party pumping all day (and all night) long. RSVP on Facebook for more details and purchase presales via Ticketfly. 2pm til late, $25 presales, $30+ at the door.

BODY/CURRENT & 120 MINUTES present RAIME, Saturday September 28, Balancoire

If you’re in the mood for something a bit darker, the SF debut of UK duo Raime is exactly what you’re looking for. Raime’s sound is hard to pin down: imagine a pair of oldschool junglist ravers, who clearly love industrial and experimental music, getting together to make brooding electronic music with lots of spooky acoustic instrumentation. In other worlds, slow-dance music for the end of the world, with a lot of bass. Opening for Raime is Austin Cesear, an Oakland-based electronic musician whose subterranean techno is the perfect appetizer for Raime’s last supper. DJs Josh Cheon and TDM will keep the vibe dark but groovy throughout the evening. RSVP on Facebook for more information and purchase presales via Ticketfly. 10pm - 2am, $15 presales, $15+ at the door.

HAÇETERIA featuring BLACK JEANS and INHALT, Friday October 4, Slate Bar

Haçeteria’s October party is one of their best of the year, featuring the final live performance by local producer Russell Butler, a.k.a. Black Jeans. Black Jeans’ live gigs are something to behold, performed on analog hardware, looking and sounding raw, acidic, hard and jacking, like a lost piece of 1989 warped way into the future. Joining him is Inhalt, the synth-wave duo from San Francisco whose live performances combine vinyl DJing with live synthesizers on top, which makes for a killer sort of live-remix effect, adding a synthed-out twist to familiar classics. Opening the night is Sky Madden of local caustic shoegaze duo Chasms, who’ll be playing a selection of dragged-out tunes to get things started. Haç residents will keep things bumping in between sets. RSVP on Facebook for more details. 10pm - 2am, $5 all night.

Octo Octa

Octo Octa

PUSH THE FEELING featuring OCTO OCTA and MATRIXXMAN, Saturday October 5, Underground SF

100% Silk is home to numerous dreamy, disco-touched house music aficionados, but Octo Octa is one of their best. Of all the Silk crew, Octa is one of the hardest to pin down, infusing his productions with the washed-out dub stylings of 90s Berlin techno while maintaining a house music sensibility, with a knack for killer pop hooks and just enough dreamy vocal loops to keep your hands in the air. Joining him is SF producer MATRiXXMAN, a various-and-sundry kind of talent who is just as comfortable with 90s r’n’b as he is with Detroit techno. He’ll be DJing, digging deep into his collection of oldschool Chicago house alongside some newer, weirder techno. Push The Feeling resident DJs round out the lineup and will keep the party going in between. RSVP on Facebook for more information and purchase presales via Eventbrite. 9pm - 2am, $5 presales, $6+ at the door.
