The Dodos Go Bananas at Bimbo's

Although The Dodos have been on our radar for quite some time, we've kind of taken having these guys in our backyard for granted. We recently featured them in our Hot 20 Under 40, and not to toot our own horn, but man were we right. Making their last stop of the stateside leg of the tour really was kind of sentimental for them and you could really tell that they put their heart and soul into every note. But emotions aside, these guys (consisting of singer/guitarist Meric Long, drummer Logan Kroeber, and newbie on the vibraphones Keaton Snyder) were polished to perfection. Slamming out Time To Die nearly in its entirety, the lack of older material was obvious, but our personal favorite "Walking" off of Visiter, somehow got squeezed into the set list, so ultimately, we were happy campers. There was however, something visibly different in their live show from their records. The Dodos' intensity was turned up 10 notches, they were thoroughly focused yet obviously enjoying themselves, and breezed through each of their individual and unique off-tempo beats with unusual ease. We were especially impressed with the all-lights-off-and-glowsticks-attached-to-our-hands series of songs. Everything about the show was raw and impressive. The Dodos really have come a long way in the last couple years, and despite some of the most serious vibraphone playing we've ever seen, we're eternally grateful to have such phenomenal talent right at our fingertips.
