The Inbox: Geographer + K. Flay

By

Each week our good friends over at The Owl Mag share all the goodies they get in their inbox (think free MP3s, new videos and the general low-down on Bay Area artists) in an effort to spread the local music gospel.  Now you're about to get it here with our new weekly feature, The Inbox. Here's what we've got this week:

Geographer:

"Kites" (the first of two singles off Geographer's new 7") is set to repeat in our office. It starts like the soundtrack to Nintendo's "Kid Icarus" (remember that game?)- playful electronic blips and beeps guide vocalist Mike Deni as he delicately jumps through a lullaby world before encountering a thunderstorm of drums and synthesizers. You'll want to play this one over and over. Do that here: "Kites"

K. Flay:

The Stanford alum caught the attention of laptop maestro MC Lars back in 2006. Since then she's collaborated with some of hip hop's finest: Del the Funky Homosapien, Gift of Gab, and Lateef. But it's her work on Zion I's inspirational Kerouac meets Tribe Called Quest track "Coastin'" that has industry chomping at the bit. Flay is a 2.0 Lady Sovereign who can handle an acoustic guitar, and, as this mixtape proves, produce her own darn self. Download, MASHed Potatoes for free and get excited about her upcoming Amplive produced album.
