Inbox: Lee "Scratch" Perry, Oona and The Art Museums
What better way to promote fun-loving times than to surround yourself with pot plants and a pre-teen? Reggae icon Lee "Scratch" Perry is in his 70s and the ganja may have a stranglehold on his dreads but the dude continues to push the music envelope. Just listen to this schizophrenic rave-esque holiday song, sure to make you think more about glow sticks and blue pills rather than sleigh bells: "Santa Claus"
He'll be @ the Independent on 12/18. We love how the video below is titled "Lee "Scratch" Perry Coming to America 2010!" and yet all the dates are in 2009. Oh, Lee.
In more family-friendly news, Oakland siren Oona Garthwaite is quickly making a name for herself by way of the Fox show "So You Think You Can Dance." A choreographic-al number was set to her song "Tore My Heart" and now iTunes is all aflutter around her sound. The single has risen to #67, pretty awesome for an unsigned artist. Get a taste of it here: Oona.
Also, San Francisco psych-surf rockers The Art Museums signed to Woodsist, and are set to release their debut Rough Frame in 2010. Have a go at this free download of "Sculpture Gardens."
