Last Night's Photos: The National at the Fox

Throughout their 11-year career, Brooklyn's The National has continually produced hauntingly beautiful albums that inspire both healthy rock outs and reflective broods. It's that breed of high/low that makes their latest release, High Violet, one of our favorites of the year and an album perfectly suited for this manic depressive weather.

Last night's microphone-coddling, trumpet and violin-laden Fox Theater performance pulled on the emotional strings with unique renditions of "Slow Show" and "Fake Empire" and the entirety of High Violet. Sometimes you want to give lead singer Matt Berninger a hug and sometimes you want to slip him some Prozac, specifically during the very dark places he seems to go while belting out "Abel" and "Mr. November." The National plays their second Fox stint tonight, a show that has been oh-so-very sold out for weeks, but is definitely worth a splurge if you can snag tickets off Craigslist.
