In the parallel universe that is San Francisco, geek chic and just plain chic are pretty much the same thing. Which is why infiltrating the indie comic realm can be a somewhat daunting task. With the Alternative Press Expo just around the corner (comic-con.org/ape/), it’s the perfect time to break in. But being that expos can be inherently intimidating, it’s nothing short of good fortune that new Tenderloin addition Gallery 1988 (which also happens to have a counterpart in Los Angeles) is set to debut with an exhibition featuring APE artists that you definitely need to know about (a few names to get you through the door: Nathan Stapley, Sanjay Patel and Brandon Bird).
