Rufus Wainwright Piano Playing His Way to the Fox Theatre Next Week
The Fox Theater's impeccable string of summer concerts just won't quit. Crystal Castles is throwing down there tonight, and in just a few weekends, beloved crooner Rufus Wainwright is piano-playing his way onto the stage on August 21st with his singer-songwriter sister, Martha Wainwright.
We're excited to hear him sing the solid baroque pop from his latest Shakespeare-inspired disc All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu (Decca). There are a few interesting gems, like the glittering "Les feux d'artifice t'appellent", and the swooning "Martha", in which he transcibes an entire phone conversation he had with his sister one night. The beautiful sadness of his voice just seems perfect for the chilly nights we've shivered through this summer.
