Short and Sweet

Oh, film festivals. It seems like every time I look around there’s another one of you popping up—like purse designers, or starlets going to rehab. But despite the seemingly endless string of cinemapaloozas we get in the Bay Area, SF Shorts has carved out a special place in my heart. Now in its second year, the festival is devoted to (you guessed it) short films submitted from all over the world. The scope of last year’s entries blew me away and from the sounds of it, this year’s lineup is positioned to surpass the festival’s impressive debut. In anticipation of its August run, SF Shorts is hosting a sneak peak event set for July 12 at the Victoria Theatre that will feature a short program of screenings of some of the selected films (including Green Grass of Tunnel from local commercial and fine art photographer Heimo) plus a performance from SF’s Soviet pop supergroup Persephone’s Bees. And if that isn’t enticement aplenty, there will also be free beer.
