P.L.A.Y: Redefining the Pet Bed Experience

By

Pet accessories have certainly evolved. For Bay Area pet owners with discerning tastes, an eco-friendly, ultra stylish brand has emerged: P.L.A.Y, Pet Lifestyle and You.

It all started with Momo the Pug. And in typical pug fashion, he inspired his owners. So much to create the best pet products that do more than just make for a cozy resting place. P.L.A.Y founder Will Chen sought out to make the safest, stylish and most comfortable pet products that also do their part to save the environment.

The beds are the standouts—which many cats have been known to take over. Crafted from 100% natural cotton or upholstery-grade fabrics, hand-sewn craftsmanship meets easy care (all beds parts are machine washable) on these gorgeous cozies. P.L.A.Y uses a trademarked PlanetFill® filler, which is a polyfiber made from 100% recycled post-consumer plastic bottles. Hangtags and packaging utilize Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper which promote sustainable forest management.

Starting at $85, prices are above the usual Pet Express bed, but design heads can be swayed: P.L.A.Y has partnered with local artists in San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles to create an Artist Collection showcasing artsy prints that compliment cool interiors or make for conversation pieces. On some of the loungers, you can flip over the cushion for a different look. And if you really want to tie the room together, you can find people pillows in matching P.L.A.Y fabrics.

The ne plus ultra is the Warm Bellies initiative, where for every bed purchased on the website P.L.A.Y donates a mat to a shelter. They also designed a special pink 'Tuck Me In' bed ($95) benefitting breast cancer awareness, throwing in a complimentary pink fleece pillow.

And with the holidays around the corner, their new Garden Fresh toys make for tasty stocking stuffers. Buy as a set or separately, these have double layer exteriors and double-stitched edges for extra durability. They also come with a handy dog treat recipe inspired by that veggie or fruit. Zucchini cupcakes anyone?
