Palomino at the Aurora

By

Writers often find themselves on unconventional career paths, thanks to the tentative fiscal prospect of writing the next great novel. Thus, Kieran McGrath finds himself staring at the meandering rear end of a horse as it clops through Central Park and straight toward his next resume bullet point: accidental gigolo. Trading his attractive and literary self to wealthy women for financial gain, McGrath thinks he’s found his plot.

Variety calls Palomino “deeply satisfying, combining the incisiveness of psychological fiction with the immediacy of the theatrical event.” Written, acted, and directed by David Cale, Palomino is the latest in a brilliant string of solo shows. His monologues have been heard on This American Life and his lyrics have been performed by Elvis Costello and Deborah Harry. “Fascinating as he is to watch, and exquisite as his verbal imagery can be,” says the San Francisco Chronicle, "it is Cale’s gifts as a storyteller that hold an audience rapt.”
