Frida Kahlo and Other Dog Costume Awesomeness from The Whole Enchihuahua in Dolores Park

Lookin' good, SF chihuahuas! The contestants in this year's The Whole Enchihuahua dressed to the nines and strutted their stuff down the runway at Dolores Park last Sunday.

The winning costume went to Frida Kahlo (above). Her doggie unibrow is truly something else.

The Whole Enchihuahua: A Cinco de Mayo Chihuahua Party in Dolores Park This Sunday

You wouldn't know it from Taco Bell commercials and perezhilton.com, but California chihuahuas have hit some rough times. The Golden State has a massive overpopulation of chihuahuas, so much so that Virgin America has chartered flights of them out of California to New York for adoptions, where they're apparently in higher demand.

With Cinco de Mayo around the corner, 7x7 and the SF SPCA are doing what we can for the little guys by throwing them a party in Dolores Park this Sunday, May 1. We're calling it The Whole Enchihuahua because it's big time. We're talking a chihuahua meet-up and adoption booth,  a Cinco de Mayo-themed doggie costume contest, SF mariachi band Trio Sol de America and all your favorite Off the Grid food trucks.

Ask A Vet: Is Your Dog Scared of Car Rides?

Welcome to our weekly 'Ask a Vet from the SF SPCA' feature on 7x7.com. They've enlisted their Co-President, Dr. Jennifer Scarlett, to answer your questions every week. Got a question for Dr. Scarlett? Ask away in the comments!

Q: Our dog gets crazy anxiety every time we take a car ride. She can't sit still and she's very shaky. What can we do to help her and make car rides more pleasant?

Mission: Cats, SF's New Cat Hotel

We're pretty keen on dogs over here at 7x7–if you haven't noticed–but it's time to give some love to our other favorite furry household companions, cats. There's a new kitty hotel in San Francisco called Mission: Cats, which combines everyone's love of live cat webcams (owners can check in on their cats while they're out of town) with plush digs for your cat to get comfortable in when you're on that much-needed vacation.

Ask A Vet: How To Tell If Your Dog Has A Cold

Welcome to our weekly 'Ask a Vet from the SF SPCA'  feature on 7x7.com. They've enlisted their Co-President, Dr. Jennifer Scarlett, to answer your questions every week. Got a question for Dr. Scarlett? Ask away in the comments!

Q: Sometimes my pooch has a little cough. Should I be worried? How do I know if she has a doggie cold? What are the symptoms?

Celebrate Your Love of Pets at Petchitecture 16, Benefitting PAWS at The Palace Hotel

It's no secret San Franciscans love their pets—just take a look at our 2011 Cutest Dog Poll's comments section for evidence—so we're excited to give you one more opportunity to show off just how adorable they are to the rest of the world. Behold, this year's 16th annual Petchitecture Gala benefitting PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support), taking place at the Palace Hotel on April 23rd.

And the 2011 7x7 Dog Poll Winner Is...

We've always known San Francisco to be a dog-lovin' city, but the heights of our collective obsession really became apparent in this year's 7x7 Dog Poll. The 2011 class of canine cuties inspired more than 25,000 votes, as well as a crop of dog-dedicated Twitter feeds, Facebook fan pages and Flickr accounts. (Also, it must be noted that only in SF would a dog be named Jpeg. We're hoping that we get a CSS, a jQuery and a .Gif next year).

We picked the original 50 doggie finalists a few weeks ago by photo alone, narrowing it down from over 400 submissions. And the final 7 candidates -- who represented a great range of pooches from large to small, puppy to old-timer -- each had their own lively fan bases.

Ask a Vet: How To Train Hungry Lab Puppies

Welcome to our weekly 'Ask a Vet from the SF SPCA'  feature on 7x7.com. They've enlisted their Co-President, Dr. Jennifer Scarlett, to answer your questions every week. Got a question for Dr. Scarlett? Ask away in the comments!

Q: We have a new Labrador puppy that is not a "self feeder"... he is, well, a garbage disposal. Is there any way to train our new hungry puppy?

A: By garbage disposal do you mean your Lab puppy eats everything in site and/or eats really fast?  It isn’t unusual for Labs to do both.  If you get a couple of veterinarians in a room we’ll start talking about all the amazing things we’ve had to surgically remove from dogs—especially Labs.

How Do Seagulls Know When A Baseball Game Is Over?

Welcome to our weekly 'Ask a Vet from the SF SPCA'  feature on 7x7.com. They've enlisted their Co-President, Dr. Jennifer Scarlett, to answer your questions every week. Got a question for Dr. Scarlett? Ask away in the comments!

Giants' opening day is coming up on March 31st in LA, with their first home game on April 8th. That's why the SF SPCA turns its lens on seagulls, AT&T Park's resident wildlife, for this week's Ask A Vet.

Q: How do seagulls know when a baseball game is almost over? It seems like they show up in the seventh inning of every home game!
