Pierce Brosnan and Other "Heroes" Honored for Ocean Activism

By

Last night, Pierce and Keely Brosnan were just two of nine honorees--albeit, the most famous ones present--who received nods at the Coastal Heroes Awards for their ocean advocacy by the California Coastal Commission and Sunset magazine. In celebration of tomorrow's 25th anniversary California Coastal Cleanup Day, in which the Brosnan duo says they and their kids will be out on the beach in Malibu picking up trash and urges all Californians to join them, some of the state's most recognized enviromental supporters convened at Pier 39's Aquarium of the Bay to listen to fellow advocates talk and hear how they could further help improve the pollution problem in and along California's ocean.

The Brosnans aside, others who walked away with the glass globe awards resembling the ocean were Serge Dedina, founder of Wildcoast; UC Santa Cruz Institue of Marine Sciences director, Gary Griggs; John Hanke, vice president of Google Maps & Earth; actress and activist, Julia Louis-Dreyfus; California State Senator, Alan Lowenthal; aquarium director Julie Packard; and California Coastkeeper Alliance director, Linda Sheehan.
