Secret Recipe: Swiss Green Bean Casserole from The Front Porch

7x7 asks the city's chefs for the recipes to their most loved cocktails, bar snacks, starters, mains, and desserts. If there's a dish you can't stop thinking about and want to make at home, email lauren@hartlemedia.com. Your wish may end up on the blog, along with the actual recipe from the chef.

Home is exactly what chef Mark Goodger has in mind when he gets to working his Soul Food magic in the kitchen at The Front Porch. One of his classics is a green bean casserole, adapted from his mom's original recipe.

Serves 6

1/4 cup bread crumbs

4 tablespoons of butter, melted

1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan

2 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1 small onion, minced

1 teaspoon sugar

1 cup sour cream

4 cups French cut green beans, cooked and drained

2 cups grated Swiss cheese

1. Mix bread crumbs with 2 tablespoons of melted butter and Parmesan, and set aside for the topping.

2. Place the remaining butter in a large saucepan over low heat, and stir in flour, salt, pepper, onion, and sugar. Add sour cream, and stir constantly until sauce is bubbly and thick. Remove from heat, and fold green beans into sour cream sauce.

3. Spread beans into a buttered baking dish. Sprinkle Swiss cheese evenly over top. Sprinkle Parmesan crumbs evenly over cheese. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes or until heated throughly.

Front Porch music also is home of the most popular (and we feel the best) instructional program in Northwest Indiana. The
success of the lesson program is due largely to our 32 very different instructors. Having this number of instructors allows us
to customize the lesson to the student. Whatever the style, we've got the teacher.

This is a nice change from the traditional green bean casserole. I like it much better. This is my sister-in-law's recipe. She knows she has to bring it to all family functions and that the leftovers (if there are any) are all mine! Prep time includes the time it takes to cook the frozen green beans
