SCENE: From its alleyway entrance to its nightly jazz to its dark, spacious dining room, Bix has old-school swank written all over it. Expect to spot socialites and Financial District professionals at the mahogany bar, sipping sidecars, brandies and other classic cocktails.
EATS: Bix bills itself as a supper club, and the menu backs that up with seasonal, superbly rendered comfort dishes. The hors d’oeuvres sampler is the best way to enjoy the spectacular appetizers, such as crostini laden with meaty mushrooms and potato pillows topped with crème fraîche and caviar. Entrées include a generous slab of Kobe steak, spaghetti bathed in a rich lobster sauce and Bix’s famous chicken hash. Steak tartare is prepared tableside, and the favored dessert is—what else?—bananas Foster.
