SCENE:

The Maktub Group’s restaurants are familiar fixtures in the city’s dining scene (Chez Maman and Chez Papa Bistrot, as well as Couleur Café and Bossanova). With Chez Papa Resto, the first restaurant to open on the remodeled Mint Plaza, the team is up to its old tricks, serving food that’s Provençal in spirit, but in a loungey downtown location. A lovely outdoor patio is the best spot downtown for an alfresco lunch or dinner on the (rare) warm SF evening.

EATS:

Longtime Maktub Group chef David Bazirgan heads up the kitchen, demonstrating a fine balance of classical training and think-outside-the-box preparation. You’ll see on the menu many of the ingredients you’d expect to discover in the South of France (lamb, olives and lavender among them), married with good French technique—the resulting dishes are expertly executed versions of such classics as lamb daube, bouillabaisse, steak frites and roasted chicken.
