Rewinery Bicyclists Get Wine To Your Door In Under An Hour

By

If you live or work in San Francisco, this wine bicycle delivery man from Rewinery can be at your door or your office in under an hour. I'm not kidding. There are two bottles of wine in that white box he's holding. Rewinery, a young SoMa-based wine business, aims to make the wine buying process easier than it's ever been.

Via an interactive website or iPhone app, they offer a daily package of two bottles of wine for $30, allegedly always priced below what you'd pay at a grocery store. Take today's offer: two bottles of 2007 Domaine St. Nicolas Pinot Noir. Past deals have included 2005 Havens Merlot, and other varietals from Sans Permis and Murphy Vineyards. These are not wines for snobs or connoisseurs. (From the founders: "In our world, 'oak' is a tree, a 'nose' belongs on a face, and 'finish' is exactly what we do with a good bottle of wine"). They'll do just fine for a casual drinker, and are even better if you hate deciding between a ton of options, because only one wine is offered per day.

Not even six months old, the company is still toying around with ideas.  If you click the "Special Offer" tab on their website, you may be directed to a deal on two bottles of wine in a package with products from local chocolate maker TCHO, or Cowgirl Creamery cheeses. All of those are available in under an hour too.

You pay with cash or credit card upon delivery, which can happen anywhere in San Francisco between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. Convenient? Yes, I'd say so. Rewinery also acknowledges you're taking a gamble on the wine they're offering, so they'll happily refund and replace any wine if it's not to your liking.

Today, the special offer is a Wine Happy Hour, pushing free delivery on a $5 bottle of 2005 Murphy Vineyards Red Wine if you place your order before 3 pm. Last week they did this and sold through 50 offers in five minutes. Seems almost silly not to try it out once—at the very least, it's a cheap thrill.
