Matter + Spirit: The Sculpture of Stephen De Staebler
Now through April 22
For more than 50 years, the human form enthralled Bay Area sculptor Stephen De Staebler. "The figure obsesses not just artists but human beings. It's out prison. It's what gives us life and also death," observed De Staebler, who died in 2011. To commemorate his life, the de Young Museum is displaying 55 of his ceramic and bronze works, such as Blue Mask with White Stripe.
