Seven Favorite Things: Department 17
Department 17 is off to a big year. Co-owned by local boys, Nelson Jang, Daniel Lee, and Adrian Putra, the indie menswear retailer kicked off 2012 with a strong move from their Russian Hill digs into a larger, more shopper-friendly space in Hayes Valley.
With the cushy square footage, the boys beefed-up their quality-first brand list, adding fresh faces like Reigning Champ (#4) of Canada, and Kitsune of Paris, to the roster.
The online store is still growing, but with their expanded reach, the site is already selling out of favorites like the Japanese-made Porter Layer 3way Briefcase (#2). Ideal for urban commuters, this clever bag switches from street-smart briefcase/messenger to action-ready backpack in seconds (and looks oh-so-slick in each mode). Keep an eye out for the re-stock on that one, and in the meantine, check out the rest of our spring/summer favorites from Department 17.

2. Porter Layer 3way Briefcase, $515
