Look of the Week: Head in the Fog

This week's weather brings to mind the cliché Mark Twain quote, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." Yes, dear readers, the fog has nestled in to every nook and cranny of our fair city, making us increasingly lethargic in the mornings as we're piling on layers instead of traipsing about town in a bright sundress. But there's no reason you can't still look seasonally appropriate while bundling up to face the fog, which brings us to our look of the week:

Link Love: Cellulite-Fighting Panties and The New Sartorialist Book

Daily reads from our feeds …

Women will do anything to trim the fat, as evidenced by the speed in which these cellulite-fighting panties flew off the shelves in the UK. The Cut reports on the magic crystals that promise to do the impossible.

Refinery 29 stumbled upon an advanced copy of Scott Schuman's new book, The Sartorialist, and called it total perfection. We can't wait to get our hands on it.

Daily reads from our feeds...

In Michelle Obama news (via The Cut), the first lady debuted a new hairstyle at a country music celebration at the White House last night. Okay, we probably would have chosen a more glamorous place to reveal the new 'do, but it looks great nonetheless.

Note to PETA: it's time to ditch the red paint. We think Stella McCartney's Bambi ads (via Fashionista) are a better (not to mention cuter!) way to show your love for animals.

New and Fabulous: Dekkori Shoe Styling Pieces

If the shoe fits, wear it, they say. We’d wager a more important factor is how that shoe looks. But that line of thinking can lead to crippling outcomes – and not just for your toes.

For Stephanie Kim, a fascination with fabulous footwear almost jeopardized the contents of her kitchen cabinets.

“My wardrobe has always been very simple. My obsession has always been shoes,” says the SoMa-based corporate attorney, who briefly considered tossing what lay within her cupboards to eek out more storage for her ever-growing shoe collection, now topping 200 pairs.

Conde Nast shows magazine favoritism (gasp!) by giving Men.Style.com the axe in October while introducing shiny new websites for GQ and Details, according to Ad Age.

As if the term "mandals" wasn't bad enough, now menswear designers are adding socks into the equation (via Refinery29).

American Apparel is having a really good sale, meaning they're now selling selected basics for the price they should have been selling them for in the first place.

Fashion Alert: Taiwanese Pop-Star Jolin Tsai Debuts Fashion Line in SF

Want to meet the woman who’s constantly referred to in the U.S. media as the “Britney Spears of Taiwan” and be among the first American customers to glimpse fall offerings from the starlet’s newly launched line Seventy Two Changes?

7 Minutes with reMade USA Handbag Designer Shannon South

We're always thrilled when we hear of new and noteworthy San Francisco designers because, let's face it, we don't live in a city particularly recognized for its sense of style. This is why we were immediately smitten when we came across Shannon South and her inspiring handbag line reMade USA. For those who aren't already familiar, reMade is a Potrero Hill-based company that repurposes used leather jackets to make covetable one-of-a-kind creations (meaning you don't have to sacrifice leather to be eco-friendly), all named after streets in our fair city. With this, we leave you with our second installation of "7 Minutes With":

How did the idea for reMade USA come about?

Link Love: The Poorgeois Look, Vintage Glam and Scary Single-Lens Shades

Good reads from our feeds....

From Dream Sequins, we learn a new word to add to our fashion vocabulary: poorgeois.

Normally, we fawn over anything from Maison Martin Margiela, but these single lens sunglasses are kind of freaking us out.

San Francisco to the rescue. Locally based private-equity firm Golden Gate Capital saved Eddie Bauer from bankruptcy with an auction bid of $286 million. The Cut reports.
