Where to Shop this Weekend

With another week in ’09 almost under our proverbial belts, we’re doing what we do best on Fridays: pondering ways to pepper the weekend with fashionable fun. Here are three:

Dylan Closes on Chestnut Street

The rumors have been swirling, but we’ve confirmed that Dylan, the Vintage 415 owned co-ed boutique in the Marina, has closed. Callers may still get a voicemail message at the location that connotes business as usual, but as of today, the e-tail arm of the Dylan website has shut down—sans any official going-out-of-business sale—and the homepage announces: “The boutique at 2146 Chestnut Street is closed. … Please check back for updates in the coming weeks.” Those updates could end up being that the Vintage guys are selling the store to new owners, but that’s still TBA, according to partner Nate Valentine.

Sidewalk Chic: Impeccable Details in NoPa

Ryan Wong

Age: 29

Occupation: Advertising

Spotted: Little Star Pizza on Divisadero, 9:21 p.m.

Favorite place to shop in San Francisco? “I like going to Rugby (Ralph Lauren) for shirts. They always fit me well.”

Describe your ideal Sunday: “Making breakfast with what I find in my girlfriend’s refrigerator, going to Green Apple Books for a while, then grabbing some French macaroons from Miette and getting together with family for a Chinese banquet in the evening.”

Get Tipsy at the San Francisco Wedding Fair

Not every bride-to-be is fortunate to have her own Mindy Weiss (wedding planner to the stars - think Eva Longoria, Jessica Simpson and Avril Lavigne). Nope, sometimes we actually have to plan it ourselves.  Which, let's be honest, sometimes sucks.

Enter The Four Seasons. All day on Jan. 18, the luxury hotel will play host to the San Francisco Wedding Fair, where bride-to-bes can sip champagne, listen to the sweet sounds of a string quartet and drink, er, plan away her worries with the help of a panel of professionals.

It's Possible, Folks: The Perfect Jeans

Few things in life are perfect. But most of us, at least once in our lives, have happened upon the perfect pair of jeans. When it happens, it’s a beautiful thing.  But let's be honest, it never happens.

Sidewalk Chic: Well-Heeled in Union Square

Tifani Wilt

Age: 39

Occupation: Women’s Fashion Director, Macy’s West

Spotted: Outside of Macy’s, waiting for a ride from her fiancé, 5:47 p.m.

Favorite place to shop in San Francisco? (laughs) “Well I would have to say Macy’s.”

Most recent purchase? “Lots of Christmas presents and a pair of Paige Boyfriend jeans.”

Extra Coating: Candystore Collective Winter Coat Drive

Generally speaking, the well-known maxim of give, and you shall receive refers to the intangible feelings of good will that come with helping, reaching out and extending oneself for the sake of others. We love those feelings. But sometimes, if we’re being completely honest, we appreciate a carrot. You know, an extra little bit of get-up-and-go to take us from wistfully pondering all the ways to do good in this world to, um, actually getting up and doing one of them. Candystore Collective’s Winter Coat Drive is just the mid-January kick in the pants we need to lend our support to a worthy local organization. Through Jan.
