With all the beauty products that come flying across my desk begging to be tested, it’s no surprise that every now and again I have the dreaded complexion freak-out. Yes, I’ve been forewarned by nearly every aesthetician I’ve seen since I started writing about beauty to stop with the adventuresome product hopping. But alas, my love of the challenge (say, finding that do-it-all serum or the gentlest of alpha hydroxy acid face scrubs) has left me willing to swallow the hazards of the job.

Roland Mouret's SF Debut

Roland Mouret knows women. This much is clear when you see the glove-like fit and perfect proportions of the timeless dresses and elegant skirt suits created by the dapper London-based, French-born fashion designer. Known for his signature draping technique, good looks (he started out as a model), and iconic Galaxy dress made famous by a curvaceous Scarlett Johansen who sported the frock on the red carpet, Mouret has been steadily garnering a following among Tinsel town A-listers and fashion editors alike since he launched his first collection during London’s Fashion Week in 1998.

Father’s Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day has come and gone, but Father’s Day is nearly upon on us. Every year, I find myself searching for something that my dad doesn’t already have. Impossible! After getting an early start on my shopping this year, I’ve rounded up a few cool gifts for dads of all personalities everywhere (including the gift I already bought and wrapped for my pops—see number one):

Dress Up

Adam Lippes, one half of now-defunct Adam + Eve, has launched his own line, Adam. We love this button-down silk dress in dip-dyed ombre that’s the perfect easy summer dress—wear it loose or give it shape by cinching the smock waist tie. $464; Romi Boutique, 2512 Sacramento St., 415-922-7664

Summer Trend Alert: Flat Sandals

Jogging around the Marina this weekend in 85-degree heat instantly turned me into a marketer’s dream. I felt uncomfortably warm in my sneakers after an afternoon run, so I popped over to Chestnut Street for a quick shopping detour where more than a few boutiques had the latest footwear trends—gladiator and ankle-strap sandals—displayed prominently in their windows. There were so many choices, from exotic skins to embellished and metallic leather; I wasn’t sure whether I was feeling light headed from the exercise or the dizzying shoe selection. So what if I’d be back home amid the misty Sunset fog in an hour? The sight of all those gorgeous feet-baring flats sent me on a post-workout mission to find some hot options for the next SF heat wave.

Tipping Point Community Benefit

Nearly 475 guests crowded into Bimbo’s 365 Club in North Beach on May 1 for the annual Tipping Point Community Benefit. The event, attended by local luminaries Ronnie Lott, Charles Schwab and Sergey Brin, raised a record $3.76 million for poverty-fighting programs in the Bay Area.
