5 Chic Wine Country Hotels for the Perfect Weekend Away

By

Wine Country offers so many cozy places to rest your head, here are a couple of our favorites.

Napa Vineyard House

The Napa Vineyard House began life in 1901 as a farmhouse, but after a 2015 renovation, was transformed into a modern, five-room boutique inn. Think comfy chic with Restoration Hardware furniture and linens, L'Occitane bath products, and vineyard views. For guests craving an even more private experience, an adjacent two-bedroom cottage beckons with king size beds, leather armchairs, private patios, gas fireplaces, and soaking tubs, and to top it all off, every day starts deliciously with a complimentary Bouchon Bakery breakfast delivered to your room. Plus, a current winter special includes 10% off rates for any two-night stay and 15% off for any stay of three nights or more. // 1205 Hillview Lane (Napa), napavineyardhouse.com

Carneros Resort

For anyone who hasn't been to the Carneros Inn in a while, the newly remodeled harvest cottages are reason enough to return to this old favorite. Your home for the weekend has all the usual trappings of a luxury hotel—crisp white linens, a soaking tub and heated floors in the bathroom—and then some: French doors open onto private patios where you can bathe and lounge al fresco. When the sun goes down, don your fluffy robe and head to the adults-only pool for views of the vineyards beneath the stars. As if all this weren't enough, Carneros Inn also wins our hearts with their fire butler: That's right, your very own pit master will be onhand to tend both your indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit, ensuring the flames will never go out.—Sarah Medina // 4048 Sonoma Hwy. Vintners Inn

One of Sonoma County's most popular luxury properties, this 98-acre Russian River Valley destination is now extra-green, thanks to a $1 million renovation
in 2015 that has brought new energy efficient lighting, electric vehicle charging stations, and eco-friendly electric fireplaces. On the aesthetic side, the 44-room hotel also has a brand new lobby, atriums finished in Venetian plaster, and guest rooms decked out with new drapery, bedding, furniture, lighting and artwork. // 4350 Barnes Road (Santa Rosa), vintnersinn.com

The Bergson

In spring 2016 the former Christopher's Inn was transformed into this gem, with all 21 rooms and suites newly renovated, plus the lobby, courtyard, and grounds all updated. Designed in a residential style, accommodations include fireplaces, private patios, Jacuzzi tubs, balconies, L'Occitane en Provence bath products, and, for the more adventurous, bicycle rentals to explore town. Impress your friends with this tidbit: the Inn is named after French philosopher Henri-Louis Bergson, renowned in the early 20th century for convincing other great minds that experience and intuition are more significant than rationalism and science for understanding reality. Hotel Healdsburg

This already grand dame boasts a brand new look, thanks to the talents of San Francisco-based David Baker Architects and Myra Hoefer Design Inc. of Healdsburg. The boutique property opened in 2001, and the recent renovation brings her rooms up to current fashion, with locally-made artisan furniture such as custom beds made from Ancient Bay Laurel trees sourced from Evan Shively's Arborica of West Marin, custom cow hide benches, harbor recycled wood bedside tables from Palecek, luxurious rugs made with silk and wool, and textured linen slip covered chairs. Even the dishes in each room are custom, as ceramic coffee cups and plates designed by Jered Nelson of Jered's Pottery in Richmond. // 25 Matheson Street (Healdsburg), hotelhealdsburg.com.
