John Galliano's Maison Margiela Opens on Maiden Lane

By

Our streets have lately been blessed with many a designer storefront, and now the arrival of Maison Margiela feels like a stamp of approval straight from Paris with love. The house flings open its hefty Maiden Lane doors and unveils its Spring 2015 collection just in time for gorgeous summer weather here in the city.

Founded in 1988, the brand represents the minimalism and detail of French design. Its local two story boutique has plenty of raw influences, and it's brimming with design elements to make you swoon, from tromp-l'oeil wallpaper to an under-construction feel reminiscent of the brand's home atelier in Paris. It's the perfect balance between feminine and masculine, and will be home to both men's and women's collections.
In 2014, the house hired the controversial designer John Galliano as creative director, marrying his coutourier's skills with the avant-gardism Margiela is known for. While there are those who said Galliano would never work again after the awful racist rant that lost him his post at Dior, the scandal so far seems to have no effect on the flourishing house of Margiela—this is the brand's second boutique to open lately in California.

The question now is will San Francisco welcome welcome the Galliano-helmed brand, and will it respond to such experimental fashion? Truly, the clothes are delicious (just look at those layers!). Go sift through the latest wears and indulge in everything from ready-to-wear to the MM6 accessory line. Don't forget to snap a selfie in the shoe lounge...the sofa is to die for.
