A Locally Sourced Mother's Day Wish List

A Locally Sourced Mother's Day Wish List

By

Knowing what mothers across the country are craving is a large part of my duty as the editor of Mother, a style-leaning parenting site that launched one year ago. But when it comes to creating a Mother's Day wish list, it does me no greater pleasure than to hone in locally on the best gifts from Bay Area makers.

From the perfect spa day and urban oasis in the heart of the city to cool and modern personalized jewelry straight from Temescal Alley, there is no shortage of local folks offering things that moms of all ages really want.

We suggest taking your pick from this list, and combining it with breakfast (and snuggles) in bed. Perfection.

1. IO Essential Oil Massage, $135, International Orange

I don't know any mother who would stick her nose up at a spa day. I love International Orange not only for its never-disappoints essential oil massage (using Fiore body balm), but it also has an awesome outdoor patio and a stellar magazine selection.

2. Marisa Mason Flora ID Bracelet, $65, Marisa Mason

Temescal Alley's Marisa Mason makes simple and beautiful baubles and her store in Temescal Alley is a must-visit when in Oakland. Her simple pieces can be customized with initials or names, which is perfect for Mother's Day.

3. BloomThat The Laurel Bouquet, $65, BloomThat

BloomThat's fast and affordable bouquets have made gifting florals as easy as 1-2-3.The Laurel is a favorite made just for the Mother's Day holiday.

4. Jenny Pennywood Napkins, $32 (set of two), Jenny Pennywood

I'm such a huge fan of Jen Garrido, a fellow mother and super talented lady. Her prints are instantly recognizable and so cool. Would love to see them lined up around my table at a dinner party!

5. Heath Ceramics Candleholder Tray Set, $130, Heath Ceramics

You can't go wrong with Heath Ceramics. This beauty would look amazing on pretty much any table or fireplace mantle. Classic, infinitely cool, and Californian.

6. Shawn Burke Ltd. Cobalt Necessaire Clutch, $63, Shawn Burke Ltd

Shawn Burke is an S.F. fashion vet, makeup artist, and maker of the most beautiful leather clutches, coin pouches, cosmetic bags, and jewelry pouches in vivid, made-you-look shades. I love everything she does.

7. The Podolls Luz Pocket Tee, $165, The Podolls

The Podolls aren't only two of San Francisco's best designers, they're also now amazing retailers with two locations—in Noe Valley and Burlingame. If you stop in and try something on, it's pretty hard to leave empty handed. The fit and feel of the clothing is just that good.

8. Yellow Owl Workshop Carve-A-Stamp Kit, $30, Yellow Owl Workshop

For the crafty mom, this carve-your-own-stamp kit is great for upgrading boring cards and envelopes, as well as making wrapping paper and a million other things. It also doubles as a great activity with the kids.

9. Freda Salvador Wit D'Orsay Oxford, $385, Freda Salvador

Cool flats and boots have made local brand Freda Salvador a rising star well beyond San Francisco. One pair will take you from the office to a night out and to the playground. Worth the investment!

10. Acqua E Sapone Facial, $155, AES Beauty

Kimmy Pigliucci has completely changed my skin, to the point that I don't even need to wear makeup anymore. Her facials also leave one's face glowing, and never broken-out. She's a skin savior and quickly becoming a word-of-mouth, insider favorite.
