My pals, Alice@97.3, hosted their 10th annual Now and Zen music fest on Sunday in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Thousands braved the early gloom to see Peter Bjorn and John, Gin Blossoms, Joss Stone and headliner James Blunt.

7 Questions with The Sounds

Swedish rock stars The Sounds rocked the Fillmore this week, the second time they have sold out the iconic music palace. I talked to Maya and Felix about music and more.

1. All right, Maya, Felix—The Fillmore, this is the second time you’ve sold this place out. Does it translate back in Sweden? Do people know of The Fillmore?

Treasure Island Music Festival

I was among the thousands of music fans who flocked to Treasure Island over the weekend for two days of music and good vibes on a fogless San Francisco Bay.

The real treasure on the island was of course the music, DJ Shadow Kid Beyond, M.I.A., Thievery Corporation, Trainwreck riders and that’s just for starters. There were two stages, more than 28 artists and several thousand people who came for a good time.

Dinner with Tony Bennett

Greetings chums,

Last night, while many were still chewing over the shambolic performance of Britney Spears at the VMAs, I had the joy of being in the same room as a real star who was chewing his way through a plate of ravioli. Tony “I Ieft my heart in San Francisco” Bennett enjoyed dinner last night at Piazza Pellegrini in North Beach. His friend of more than 40 years Gino Biradelli, his lovely wife Alexis and a few other pals dined with him.

Summer of Love 40th Anniversary

Summer of Love Stage

It was 1967 all over again on Sunday as San Francisco stepped back in time to celebrate The Summer of Love - 40 years on. The weather was spectacular; the music was sensational; the whiff of 1967 in the air was potent.

Alice Radio Karaoke Party

Greetings chums,

San Francisco’s DNA Lounge was the venue on Friday night for an evening of crooning and howling as Alice@97.3 hosted its annual karaoke contest. Top-rated morning show hosts Sarah and No Name were the masters of musical ceremonies. Matti produced and Charlene kept score.

Yours truly was on the judging panel along with record exec Joy and song spoiler HOOMAN.

Public Enemy Rock Apple

Hang time with Flava FLAV

After 20 years together, the godfathers of rap Public Enemy are still going strong. They still have an edge and still have something to say. They wrote songs loaded with rhymes that were as brutal as their ear-splitting music—bringing the noise of black militancy into the rap mainstream and burning their mark on a generation.
