Picasso and American Art

SFMOMA launched two exhibits last Friday:

"Brice Marden: A retrospective of paintings and drawings," featuring works from all phases of the artist's career to May 13 and "Picasso and American Art," which showcases Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Jackson Pollock and others to May 28.

Symphonix kicked off the spring season by hosting a cocktail party for its members—symphony enthusiasts ranging in age from 25 to 45—at Vessel on Union Square.

Arts of Pacific Asia Show Opening

The 11th annual Arts of Pacific Asia Show opening, held in the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason, benefited the education programs of the Asian Art Museum Chong-Moon Lee Center for Asian Art and Culture. The show continues through February 4 (Sunday) and features rare Cambodian Silk Ikats from NY's Chinalai Gallery.

Cabaret at The Great American Music Hall

Mount St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth threw its 10th annual benefit party and cabaret show at the Great American Music Hall. The show featured a local cast including Paul Pelosi.

Artist Wayne Thiebaud Honored at SFMOMA

The Modern Art Council  gave painter and printmaker Wayne Thiebaud the 2006 Bay Area Treasure Award in recognition of his lifetime achievements at a luncheon held at SFMOMA yesterday.

The Modern Art Council  gave painter and printmaker Wayne Thiebaud the 2006 Bay Area Treasure Award in recognition of his lifetime achievements at a luncheon held at SFMOMA yesterday.

SFMOMA Art Award Exhibition

According to the SFMOMA website, "the 2006 SECA Art Award exhibition presents work by five extraordinary artists—Sarah Cain, Kota Ezawa, Amy Franceschini, Mitzi Pederson, and Leslie Shows—who work with a diverse array of media and subject matter. The biennial award, sponsored by SFMOMA's SECA (Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art) auxiliary, recognizes local artists of exceptional promise."

The exhibition, which kicked off on Jan. 27, will continue through Sunday, April 22, 2007.
