A flurry of food news arrives as we near the end of the year, and it all pertains to 2014. And while we haven't heard of any more new-year closings besides Bottle Cap, Andalu, and Fifth Floor, we're still watching and waiting. Sadly, 'tis the season for abrupt closings, as well as celebrations.

This week's food news includes a new location of one-year-old Reveille Coffee Co., which is opening a second cafe in the Castro; the addition of an ice cream bar at Daniel Patterson's soon-to-open Alta CA; chef George Morrone has a new restaurant; and a new bakery window in the Mission for Outer Richmond-based Marla Bakery.
Topping the food news this week is the impending opening of the long-awaited Boot & Shoe Service/Pizzaiolo spinoff, Penrose (which won't be a pizza place), as well as the opening of a new sandwich spot from former A16 chef Liza Shaw, anniversary dinners at Quince, the return of Maverick brunch at Hi Lo, and the debut of Sabrosa in the Marina.
