Bat for Lashes

Local Designer Goes to Bat for Lashes’ Head

If you’ve seen Bat for Lashes lately, it’s likely you’ve also seen the work of San Francisco accessories designer Nico Lopez, who creates adornments such as feather headpieces and shoulder-dusting recycled leather earrings under her label 1228.

Outside Lands Video: Bat for Lashes

So, we'll level with you, Bat for Lashes is pretty freaking cool. And it's not because she's British, rocked a head piece that put the tween hipsters to shame, and had crows and sparkles (oh, and a Jesus?) all over her Outside Lands set (which, naturally, screams cool...like, ethereal cool). It's because she's got an amazing voice. Like, operatically amazing. She mesmerized the Panhandle stage with songs like "Daniel" and "Pearl's Dream." Check out "Glass" below.

Outside Lands: The Best Of Saturday

While Friday’s line-up brings oldies and fuses some goodies right along with it, Saturday power pumps indie experimental psych-rock with a sprinkling of hip-hop, all with one thing in common. They are all notorious for their amazing live shows. Lucky you. Here are our picks for the best of Saturday, in hierarchical order.

This Week's Top Concerts: The Power Female Edition

They say that it’s a male dominated world, but with power females like these, we beg to differ. Check out these women dominating the stages this week (and a few men too):

Neko Case, The Warfield, 6/9-6/10: Just in case you can’t make it to tonight’s performance, an encore is lined up for tomorrow, so there’s really no excuses. Miss Case gained fame by working on the New Pornographer’s debut album, but she’s held her ground and is proving to be one of indie’s new leading ladies with her fiercely independent and artistic voice. She’s definitely someone to keep your eye on these days.
