In honor of the Bay Bridge's 75th anniversary, we held a photo contest to show SF's second-favorite bridge some much-deserved love. We had almost 500 entries on Instagram and Twitter, and were blown away by the incredible photographers in our city. Although the winner has already been chosen and notified, we still want to share a few of our favorite entries with you.
We hate to admit it, but sometimes we treat the Bay Bridge like the ugly step-sibling of San Francisco bridges. It might not have the name recognition or quirky color of the city's famed Golden Gate, but our other bridge is pretty spectacular in its own right.
Last Friday, the final piece of the new Bay Bridge was laid (it weighed two million pounds). It marks the completion of the largest structure of its kind anywhere in the world. The new Bay Bridge is scheduled to open in 2013, so don't start revving your engines just yet.
