Pangea Organics: This Face Mask Grows Basil

We love any beauty product that does double duty, so we were immediately sucked in when we heard Pangea Organics offered a face mask that would not only spruce up our skin, but also arrives in plantable packaging that grows into Genovese Sweet Basil.

Made with natural ingredients such as Japanese matcha tea, acai and goji berry that promise to revitalize with antioxidants while polishing the skin, the Facial Mask comes wrapped in rugged paper packaging that you soak, then plant in soil. The seeds inside the packing should turn into sauce-worthy basil within just a few weeks.

Where to Shop this Weekend

Congratulations. You’ve arrived at the end of the first full work week of the year. Feel like celebrating? Try treating yourself to a little weekend glamour. After all, it’ll be Monday again before you know it.

SF's Master of Up 'Dos

It’s high season for cultural events around town, and that means hair stylists skilled in special-occasion hair are in serious demand. I recently went looking for an expert who could pull off the quick-fire task of giving me some innovative up ‘dos—spurred by a recent flurry of post-work weeknight galas. Here are a couple of gorgeous styles whipped up by Cinta Salon’s Ernie Meneses, a Tinseltown-native and recent SF transplant, who has been in the hair biz for more than eight years. After my first visit with Ernie, I quickly realized I’d never have to worry about ending up with the dreaded over-curled and shellacked “bridesmaid” hair.

Eco-friendly skin-care line by Teens Turning Green

Weather wise, it’s not quite summer yet for San Franciscans. While we’re shedding our layers when late August finally brings the heat, the rest of the world, it seems, is moving on to fall and beyond. Even while dreaming of lazy days at Baker Beach and music festivals in the park, I try to keep up by creating a mental list of gift ideas for when the holidays inevitably come crashing in. Enter: Teens Turning Green skin-care line, for that teenage girl in everyone’s lives.

Maria Galland: Quite Possibly the Perfect Do-it-All Mascara

I’m not usually one to promote shelling out the big bucks on mascara. With the huge range of options available at the drugstore (not to mention the tiny amount of product you actually get), you can pretty much find what you need at a quarter of the department store prices.

Complimentary false lash applications at Shu Uemura SF

Like most women, I’ve come to think of false lashes as a special occasion beauty indulgence. I’ll squeeze in an application at a cosmetic counter a few times a year for, say, the ballet opening or the opera gala to achieve that camera-ready, extra diva-ish look. But after noticing how truly fabulous a girlfriend of mine always appears ever since she got semi-permanent lash extensions—whether she’s dressed in sweats or a cocktail dress—I just knew I had to change my inconsistent lash lengthening ways.

Best in Beauty: Travel-Friendly Make-up Palettes

I finally found time to sneak in a few vacation days to see family this week in Ohio (and yes, dear GlamWatch readers, I am still faithfully blogging!). One of the challenges I faced packing for a red-eye flight at the 11th hour? Quickly downsizing my arsenal of beauty products to fit into a compact carry-on. Thankfully, my obsession with finding the ideal make-up palette to match just about any occasion--and purse size--left me with plenty of well-researched options. Here are my three on-the-go favorites:
