Our 2012 SF Beer Week Preview

Our 2012 SF Beer Week Preview

Happy Beer Week! SF's craft beer community has had a big year, with the recent launch of Southern Pacific Brewing (the city's first new brewery in over a decade), and huge community support for up-and-coming suds superstars like Almanac, Local Brewing Co., and Pacific Brewing Laboratory. As usual, the SF Brewers' Guild and their counterparts around the Bay have put together a dizzying lineup of 300-plus events at over 140 venues that are sure to please the palates of both seasoned drinkers and beer neophytes. With ten days of wall-to-wall good drinking, it was hard to choose just a few events to highlight, but these six seemed particularly appealing.

Raise a Glass to SF Beer Week! What to Attend

With the ever-increasing prominence of beer lists, beer tastings, beer dinners, and Cicerones (the suds equivalent of a sommelier), San Francisco is prepped and ready to celebrate a panoply of offerings at Beer Week, which starts next Friday. 50+ small, independent craft breweries will showcase their wares at the fest, with many brewers coming in person to talk shop. Beer Week also means plenty of beer dinners at SF restaurants, special offerings at stalwarts like Toronado, City Beer Store, and The Monk's Kettle, and lots of other fun events. Here are our picks for the best activities during Beer Week. We'll also be featuring some Beer Week steals in next week's Lowering the Bar column.

Every Week is Beer Week . . .

But this is San Francisco Beer Week. And there's a ton of great stuff going on.

For instance, tonight at Magnolia Brewpub, brewmaster Dave McLean and Taylor Boetticher of Fatted Calf are doing the Fest of Meat, pairing Taylor's carnal delicacies with McLean's delicious brews (call Magnolia to see if any seats remain). On Wendesday, Sierra Nevada brewmaster Terence Sullivan will be hanging out at the Page, and Toronado's Beer and Cheese Night with famed NY State brewery Ommegang will be going down in the Lower Haight. And there's much, much more. If you love beer, there's not a better week to be a San Franciscan. Check it all out here.
