Rosario Hosts Voto Latino

Actress Rosario Dawson hosted a swanky party with Mayor Gavin Newsom and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to launch Voto Latino's 2007 Bay Area pilot voter inspiration program called VL Voices at the Clift Hotel. Says Executive Director Maria Teresa Petersen, "Nothing is more critical to the 2008 election than enfranchising new Americans and San Franciscans understand this."

Chabon's Temple Reading

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon read from his most recent novel, The Yiddish Policemen's Union, at The Temple of Wings in Berkeley last Sunday. Proceeds from the sold-out event were donated to the Berkeley Public Library.

Berry Summer Fashions

The Robert Berry boutique threw a party so that folks could check out the new summer collection while sipping on some bubbly. The event benefited nonprofit organization Children of Shelters.

The Lost Boys

The International Rescue Committee honored World Refugee Day by putting on a special screening of Sundance award winner God Grew Tired of Us, which follows the lives of three young Sudanese men (aka Lost Boys) to the United States, at Letterman Digital Arts Center. A post-screening discussion and VIP reception were then held at nearby Pres a Vi.

Dress for Success

"Success: You Wear It Well" was held at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel last Wednesday to benefit Dress for Success, a nonprofit promoting "the economic independence of disadvantaged women." Cocktails, live and silent auctions, and a special performance by Harry Denton's Sunday's a Drag girls rounded out the evening's events.

The Bayview Hunters Point YMCA hosted its 2007 Annual Dinner at The City Club of San Francisco.

Picasso Lovers Lounge at the W

"Where Picasso Lovers Lounge," an exhibit of Picasso's original prints including etchings, lithographs and linoleum cuts launched last Thursday in the W Hotel's Extreme Suite and "Living Room" lounge area with a reception. The exhibit, which stretches though June 17, benefits YouthAIDS (The prints are on sale).

ZooFest for Kids

The 14th annual ZooFest for Kids!, designed for children ages one to 12, raised $150,000 to support animal care, education and conservation programming for the SF Zoo. Next year's event is slated for June 8.

SF Opera Ball 2007

The San Francisco Opera Ball brought Opera Guild members together at the home of Orrick CEO Ralph Baxter and Opera Ball Co-Chairman Cheryl Baxter for a night of drinking, noshing and dancing to live music.

Let's Dance

"Let's Dance at the Nightclub" Gala was held last weekend at Bimbo's to raise funds for Sunny Hills, which "provides ... residential, education, mental health and community-based services designed to meet the needs of emotionally and mentally disturbed, neglected and abused children."
