Furniture & Housewares Galore @ Estate Sale This Weekend In Oakland

I've heard that when people lose it all in a catastrophe, material goods become either irrelevant or paramount. When the couple who owned this Piedmont estate had their former home and possessions go up in flames during the Oakland Hills fire of '91, they decided to recreate the good life in a new house. The trappings of that existence are for sale this weekend. The estate sale is located at 25 Wildwood Gardens (a neighborhood that feels like a gated community, although it is not) in the charming Mediterranean dwelling where the husband and wife rebuilt their household. Celebrate Textile Legend Jack Lenor Larsen @ the de Young

Jack Lenor Larsen is a legend in the textiles world. He's  worked with heavy hitters like Frank Lloyd Wright and has had his owns designs featured in museums like the de Young. Also an author, collector and accomplished gardener, his famed LongHouse estate's structures and landscapes, which are infused with his unique and worldly design sensibility, are lovingly chronicled in Molly Chappellet's new book,  Jack Lenor Larsen's LongHouse (Chronicle Books).

Urban Biking & Sustainable Cities @ Dutch Design Week, Coming to SF

In the world of the wanderlust-y, there are Francophiles and Anglophiles, and die-hard Eat, Pray, Love fans that believe Italy and India are the meccas of spiritual reinvention.  Me, I’m more of a Nederphile.

How to Holiday Decorate Like the Pros @ Anthropologie

There are plenty of stores known for their extravagant holiday window displays, but given the choice, I prefer to ogle the ones at Anthropologie. As you'd only expect from the store, they're always as pretty, fresh, and unique as all get-out. But aside from all the beauty, I'm mainly checking them out to cop ideas for my own holiday decorations.

Branch Moves to SOMA (You Get a Sale)

San Francisco's Branch is finding a new place to perch. The sustainable design-focused online retailer is packing up its South Van Ness warehouse and easing into a shiny new space South of Market. While details on the new headquarters are limited so far, talk of a showroom and event space planned inside have got our interest piqued.

Get a Jumpstart on Personalized Holiday Cards with SF's Minted.com

Each year I make the same promise to myself to sit down and make my own set of holiday cards that are at once beautiful, ever so slightly witty, and 100 percent personalized. Every year, without fail, I break that promise. Sigh! It takes a lot of time and work to be that perfect. This year I'm getting an early start, and I've decided to be honest with myself about my capabilities, or lack thereof. Rather than spending far too long designing the perfect card in my head, then quickly scrapping the idea after realizing (again) that my creative skill does not equal the creativity of my ideas, I've decided to outsource things. Enter Minted, a crowdsourcing stationery site based in San Francisco.
