Jennifer Siebel Newsom Confronts Sexist Stereotypes with 'Miss Representation'

When San Francisco native Jennifer Siebel Newsom arrived in Hollywood, pursuing an acting career after her time with the U.S. women’s junior national soccer team was cut short by injury, the fair-haired Stanford alum had little trouble landing recurring roles on the CBS hospital drama Presidio Med, and later NBC’s 24-inspired Life.

Virginia Madsen had plenty to celebrate this Thanksgiving. Last month, she was an official honoree of Hollywood’s LA Femme International Film Festival, an annual celebration of films written, directed or produced by women, for her achievements during 27 years in TV and film, and also for her recently formed production company’s maiden offering: I Know a Woman Like That, an acclaimed documentary about the lives of women 64 and older whose youthful vigor remains defiantly undiminished.
 

Notes from a Darkened Theater: The Return of Michael Jackson, a New Trailer from Michael Moore

Sony Pictures announced yesterday that Michael Jackson’s This Is It would be released exclusively for a limited two-week engagement worldwide on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Tickets will go on sale in San Francisco beginning Sunday, Sept. 27.

Separately, the film’s producers have announced that Kenny Ortega has been tapped to direct.  The Emmy Award-winning director was previously responsible for visualizing Disney’s High School Musical movies, as well as directing the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. He will begin work on the long-rumored remake of Footloose this fall.
