Occupy Gingerbread: Vote in the Palace Hotel 2011 Gingerbread Competition

Holiday season is always a hectic time, but this year feels especially frantic, with San Franciscans seeming even more in need of a little reminder of what this time of year is really about: sweet dreams of miniature edible housing projects.

During the holiday season, Epi Center MedSpa (450 Sutter St., #800) is as committed to warming the hearts of those in need as to providing innovative skin care for their patients. After having had tremendous success with last year's warm coat drive, helping hundreds of San Franciscans weather the winter elements, Epi Center renewed their drive for donations of coats and jackets, benefiting St. Anthony's Foundation and Conard House.

Here are some ways to do your part in helping out the victims of the San Bruno explosion last week.

Giants Bagging Groceries at the Potrero Center Safeway Today

Baseball fans can catch a rare but special appearance by a few players today, but not on King Street. Giants Aaron Rowand and Jeremy Affeldt will join former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda—hold your jeers, it's for a good cause!—and a group of doctors bagging groceries at the Potrero Center Safeway today at noon. The special guest baggers will ask for $1 donations for the Prostate Cancer Foundation so don't be stingy! And if you really hate the Dodgers, buy some Slim-Fast and go to Lasorda's line...

Cupcakes to Celebrate: A Charity Event

When this whole cupcake trend started a few years ago, most of us excused it as a Hollywood trend. No, we were better than Paris Hilton and her little cupcake and her little Chihuahua. Well, we were wrong—this city has embraced the miniature cakes to their collective breasts. This Sunday, February 21, Cooks Boulevard will host a charity event for the San Francisco Food Bank. Tasty cupcakes will be provided by Jasmine Rae Bakery, Mission Minis, Kingsom Cake and Teeny Cakes.

Make sure to RSVP to guarantee your cupcake tasting experience. Every dollar will go towards alleviating hunger in our city.

Behind the Scenes: Competitive Grocery Bagging

It seems like there is a competition for everything today, from beard-growing to air guitar to chicken-wing-eating. Meet the latest addition to the world of competition: grocery bagging. And, like air guitar, Scrabble, and spelling bees, somebody has made a documentary about the phenomenon. "Ready, Set, Bag!" premieres in San Francisco tomorrow night at the Roxie (7pm), followed by a Q&A with the film's directors. The documentary follows eight contestants who train for the National Grocery Bagging Competition in Las Vegas by relentlessly packing grocery bags as efficiently as possible as fast as possible.
