Jack Lenor Larsen is a legend in the textiles world. He's worked with heavy hitters like Frank Lloyd Wright and has had his owns designs featured in museums like the de Young. Also an author, collector and accomplished gardener, his famed LongHouse estate's structures and landscapes, which are infused with his unique and worldly design sensibility, are lovingly chronicled in Molly Chappellet's new book, Jack Lenor Larsen's LongHouse (Chronicle Books).

1. Lobel's Meat Bible from Chronicle Books
I've just received Lobel's Meat Bible, because I'm really trying to drive a, um, a steak into the heart of my former vegetarian self. I'm not about to start butchering my own cows or anything, but I do want to start learning about the different cuts of meat.

Last Thursday, local artists and art lovers gathered at Rare Device in Duboce Triangle to celebrate the publication of The Exquisite Book: 100 Artists Play a Collaborative Game (Chronicle Books). In it—as its name implies—a hundred artists play the legendary Exquisite Corpse game, in which they each make a picture in sequence, based only on the prior artist's rendering. Kind of like a cross between Telephone and Pictionary for pros, though the game was actually invented by the Surrealists, that cheerful French lot who valued pure expression above reason, morals and even aesthetics. The resulting book shows—in satisfyingly thick, fold-out pages—the results of this collective stream of consciousness.
In The Exquisite Book, which sees its West Coast launch tomorrow night at Rare Device, 100 artists play upon a game invented by the Surrealists in the 1920s called the "Exquisite Corpse." In the original game, a paper is folded into three parts. One person draws a head, leaving only the neckline for the second person, who draws the midsection. The third draws the legs and feet. When the paper is unfolded, the character they jointly created is revealed. Way more fun than Hangman, yes?

Well, get ready for toy stories of a decidedly more adult persuasion when the comedienne reveals a more sultry side during a lunchtime signing of her book The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex at Chronicle Books this Friday.
