Spring Brings Good Firkin Beer

firkin fest 2013

Spring in San Francisco means towering Easter Bonnets in Dolores Park, trashed Big Wheels on Potrero Hill, and the advent of the beer festival season.

Nonstop Beer at Bay Area Brew Fest

Now that baseball season is over, we're going to need another reason to drink beer. Luckily, there's a big one this weekend (Nov. 13 and 14) at Fort Mason. Bay Area Brew Festival gathers dozens of domestic and international brewers under one roof and, for $50, you can try them all for three hours straight (1–4 p.m.). In addition to local favorites like Lagunitas, Speakeasy, and Big Daddy, look for a wide range of brews, from the traditional (Colt45, brewed with pride in Woodridge, Illinois by the Pabst Brewing Co.) to the European (Spaten from Munich) to the karmic (Lhasa from Tibet) to the downright experimental (MateVeza, a "naturally caffeinated yerba mate beer" from Ukiah).

Outside Lands Lineup: Forget the Bands, What About the Food?

This weekend's Outside Lands lineup has suffered mixed reviews, many bemoaning the lack of standout headliners. Um, obviously they didn't take a look at the list of food vendors. Serious SF food star power! Let's Be Frank, Namu, Yats, Pica Pica Maize Kitchen! But since the festival is all about the, uh, the music, we decided to pair food and bands for the ultimate GG Park experience. Here's what we really think would bring out the flavors this weekend's musical acts.

Indulge Your Inner Voyeur at the 2009 Architecture and the City Festival

Ever stroll by one of the many beautiful homes in the city and think, "hmm, I wonder what that place looks like from the inside"? If so that's pretty creepy, but you're not alone. Yes, we too have such creeptastic thoughts, which is why we're so excited that this week kicks off the beginning of the sixth annual Architecture and the City Festival, held by the San Francisco chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Center for Architecture + Design. What does that have to do with voyeuristic tendencies?

Design Happenings This Weekend: Maker Faire, Mignonne and the Union Design Festival

It's Friday, y'all! That means time to get on your thinking caps (ours looks something like this) and start planning what you're going to do to have the best weekend ever. A few suggestions from yours truly:

Have a Bonnie Ol' Weekend in Woodland

Apparently, you needn't travel the 5,000 miles over the Atlantic to get a taste of the Scottish Highlands; rather, hop in your car and drive the hour and a half to Sacramento 'burb Woodland this weekend instead.
