Got an email from SFist yesterday asking about my guilty food pleasures to add to their list of other food types and their own personal sins: Spruce chef Mark Sullivan's really going to go to hell for his jamon Iberico addiction, Elizabeth Falkner uses the moment for a little self-promo and, of course, Alice Waters wasn't available for comment, although I'm pretty sure she wouldn't eat an Oreo Cakester if she was marooned on a desert island.

Last month, Restaurant Gary Danko sommelier Michael Engelmann shocked the world (or at least the US sommelier community) by coming out of nowhere to win the coveted title Best Sommelier in America, a title conferred only once every two years. While Gary Danko and SF are not exactly "nowhere," it's true that Engelmann, who is not the restaurant's wine director, keeps a somewhat low profile. He's soft spoken, studious, mannered and not prone to behavior that causes him to really stand out of a crowd.
Since we're always on the hunt for great accessories that won't break the bank or won't break apart within a week of wear, we were ecstatic to hear that Banana Republic was opening a shop dedicated to their most covetable accessories. We were even more thrilled to see that the store is set up to encourage shoppers to touch and try on everything (no more locked glass cases!), which makes it feel like a candy store for fashionable ladies of all wallet sizes. We went to scope out the space on Thursday, and were lucky enough to catch up with Banana Republic's President (and Pac Heights resident) Jack Calhoun to inquire about why they decided to open Edition, as well as a few of his favorite things:
