Sending Thanks and Holiday Greetings

My parents taught me very good manners, and it went beyond “please” and “thank you.” As soon as I was able to grip a crayon, my mom would sit me down to write thank you notes to friends and relatives who gave me presents for my birthday. Even in this day of communicating via IM and text messages (and don’t get me started on My Space or Facebook), I find something comforting and charming about a good old-fashioned notecard.

Something to Talk About: Box Girls

Holiday gatherings with my family were never really quiet. There was always music playing on the stereo and lively chatter around the table. There weren’t many lulls in conversation with our bunch, but I hear about others who struggle with passing the time at gatherings.

Eco-Friendly Thanksgiving Hostess Gifts

I’ve been invited to spend Thanksgiving with my boyfriend’s family and I want to make a good impression. I’m pretty proud of my apple pie recipe, which I’ve adapted from various cookbooks and I now make using organic flour, butter and sugar. Last year, one of the vendors at the farmers’ market recommended I use a blend of apples I hadn’t tried before and the results were great. So, I’ll make a pie.
