Folks have been known to do some wacky and outrageous things while bar-hopping in San Francisco, but wearing clothing more suitable for the ski slopes?
That's what Heavenly is asking skiers and snowboarders to do the next three Fridays (Feb. 10, 17 and 24). As a reward, a lucky quartet will win an all-expenses weekend at the South Lake Tahoe resort each evening.
There's a first time for everything. After a historical season, novelty skiing — and riding — will be in full effect this Fourth of July in Lake Tahoe. If May skiing didn't satiate your snow appetite, there's more, lots more. The last time I spent the 4th in Tahoe I tubbed down the river, wakeboarded, and hiked. This time, I can do all of the above...and SKI.
A cold front overtaking much of California and a recent bout of precipitation can mean only one thing...ski season has arrived!
As of Tuesday, snow totals at 9,000 feet or higher at Heavenly Mountain Resort topped out above 30 inches, and the powder will only continue to mount as the week progresses. So if you're a trail blazer--heck, even if you're simply a snow angel artiste--we suggest packing up your four-wheel drive and heading for South Lake Tahoe this weekend before the masses get there first.
1. Sierra at Tahoe
Sierra’s 3-Pak lift ticket deal saves you $20 a ticket and limiting blackout date frustration. With February being Boeger wine tasting month—complete with free tasting Thursday’s from 3-4pm—we wouldn’t blame you for taking a mid-week sick day.
2. Northstar at Tahoe
Playing hooky gets even better with Northstar’s T.G.I. Thursday’s. Enjoy dining deals like $3 drafts and fish tacos and free entrees for Mom’s among the many restaurants in the Village. And with the Double Whammy pass, you can ride both Sierra and Northstar starting at $379 for the season.
Now that we're finally getting the shivers, let's all take a deep breath of cold, cold air. For many Bay Area skiers and snowboarders, this storm has quelled the nervous wait. Our prayers were granted; our snow dances were answered. There will be skiing and snowboarding this year in the Sierras, and just in time for Christmas. Hallelujah!
