This weekend's Outside Lands lineup has suffered mixed reviews, many bemoaning the lack of standout headliners. Um, obviously they didn't take a look at the list of food vendors. Serious SF food star power! Let's Be Frank, Namu, Yats, Pica Pica Maize Kitchen! But since the festival is all about the, uh, the music, we decided to pair food and bands for the ultimate GG Park experience. Here's what we really think would bring out the flavors this weekend's musical acts.
The word is starting to trickle in that Parks & Rec have begun calling applicants who made a bid for an ongoing, permanent street food space in one of the 219 parks in San Francisco. Though nothing is final yet (applications still have to be approved by the commission and a public hearing will be held for each new addition), chances are good that come spring you'll be seeing Let's Be Frank carts near the Conservancy of Flowers in Golden Gate Park and at Justin Hermann Plaza.
Not-in-the-know hikers might think they’ve got to leave the city for a challenging nature trek with views. Not so. Our recently renovated stretch of the California Coastal Trail, which actually runs throughout the entire state, offers rugged coastline climbs, picnic spots and several sets of steps. Around each corner is another killer view. We like to start at Baker Beach and follow the trail up to the Golden Gate Bridge, then down into Marina Green for a well-deserved lunch at either the Warming Hut (Presidio Bldg.
