On September 27, one of San Francisco's most-famed streets became the venue for a lively street fair celebrating the fall fashion season.
The event's presenting partners included Macy's and Recology, and was hosted by the Union Square Business Improvement District, as well as the Fashion Incubator—an integral part of a growing movement to revitalize San Francisco's fashion industry, providing workshop space at Macy's downtown offices, as well as training and mentorship from our fashion and economic development communities.
This week, super legit drummer and local boutique owner, Cary LaScala, showed us two looks featuring his made-in-SF, private label mens shirting and bow-tie line. We caught up with him at his boutique, Cary Lane, after he wrapped up a drumming session for Blondie, with Jeff Saltzman (who produced "Hot Fuss" by The Killers and "Dying to Say This to You" by The Sounds) -- no big deal.
Okay, we fully acknowledge that man sandals (sometimes referred to as mandals) are tough to wear. That said, when done correctly -- even with simple flip-flops -- they can make a summer look that much better.
While it's become an increasingly popular trend for stylish summer menswear, foregoing socks can be scary for a lot dudes out there. Fear not. Save the flip-flops for the beach, and don't fuss over clunky man sandals -- instead, look to one of these sunny-day loafers and check out our tips for going sockless:
This evening, we went behind the scenes, thanks to the SF SPCA, of the unveiling of the Macy's holiday windows featuring adorable, adoptable kittens and puppies. Last year, over 300 dogs and cats were adopted during the holiday season thanks to this collaboration, and over $70,000 was raised to support the efforts of San Francisco's SPCA. Let's rally together to make it even more successful this year!
Allow me to light a fire under you to get to the nearest Macy's and swoop up at least one Giambattista Valli for Macy's party dress — or leopard tuxedo pant — for the holidays. Here are your directions: Impulse department, or lift a finger at www.macys.com/impulse, veer right, sharp left, look out for the draped and ruffled, dead sexy confections in ruby red, classic black, and glamorous leopard.
One dress + six accessories = a slew of fun looks. For this weekend's SF Cocktail Week, we'll focus on just two: day and night. For more casual events like today's East Bay Showdown, or Sunday's Belvedere Bloody Mary Brunch, go for the funkier day look. For fancier soirees like tomorrow's Barbary Coast Bazaar, or Saturday's The Legend Awards, doll-up for a glitzier evening look.
Next Thursday, Fashion's Night Out will sweep the globe once more - and hit SF harder than ever - with their third annual after-hours shop-a-thon. Over 40 stores across the city will hold special evening hours full of celebrity apperances, new fall collections, steep discounts, and much more. Here are our top picks for FNO SF.
