Welcome to our Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market update. Get shopping!

This Saturday at the market we celebrate the recent olive harvest with Olive-o-Rama. In the south driveway the “Olive Booth” will be home to a tasting of newly pressed oils, information about how oils are graded and what the best uses for the various varieties, as well as tips on growing and curing your own olives at home. Chefs David Bazirgan of Chez Papa Resto and James Stolich of CookWithJames will demonstrate olive-centric recipes in the CUESA teaching kitchen. All events are free and open to the public.

In collaboration with Urban Kitchen SF, CUESA will host a hands-on kimchee class on October 27th with Todd Champagne from Happy Girl Kitchen. Just in time for the cold season, the class will focus on making this traditional fermented cabbage dish whose wonderful pro-biotic properties are said to boost your body’s immunity. Our hands-on classes sell out fast so get your tickets soon. If you can’t make the class, stop by Happy Girl’s booth on Saturdays to try their spicy version of this Korean staple.

Market Watch: The Elusive White Pomegranate, Breakfast Pizza and Kohlrabi

Every fall, from October through December Bariani Olive Oil harvests Manzanilla and Mission olives grown on their farm outside of Sacramento. The olives are hand-picked and pressed each day during the harvest season. This week at Bariani’s Saturday stand in addition to their wonderful unfiltered oils, you can also get your hands on raw Manzanilla olives. Never cured your own olives before? It’s easy and takes more patience than skill. Pick up some Manzanillas at Bariani this week and start experimenting.
