It's been a few weeks since we last made our way over to the Mish, so if this news hits you a little late, our apologies. However if you're like us and haven't been to the neighborhood in a bit, you might be surprised to find that Mid-Century Modern furniture boutique Monument is no longer occupying the storefront at 572 Valencia Street. Not to fear, they've just moved a stone's throw away to a new, much larger space literally right across the street at 573 Valencia (former location of Architectural Elements).
From Gossip Girl to Mad Men, Curtis Jere's iconic metal wall art is always prominently placed in the best interiors. And now you'll witness the value of the original vintage pieces shooting straight up since Jonathan Adler recently started selling the licensed reproductions. With that said, Monument has always been the one-stop-shop for all things (original) Curtis Jere. Like the enameled wall sculpture of owls that are pictured. Talk about a rarity. They were designed in 1966 and the company was done with enamel within a few years (therefore increasing their value). Currently available at Monument with an asking price of $1,400.
Perhaps no other San Francisco neighborhood masters the balance of high and low like the Mission (think bacon wrapped hot dogs versus dinner at Range, thrift store furniture finds versus Mid-Century masterpieces at Monument), but rarely do you see high for low... anywhere in the city, for that matter. This Friday, however, some of the Mission's finer merchants will be bucking the norm with late-night sales and deals on everything from home decor to clothes to drinks (yes, please). There will also be a number of door prizes, live entertainment, and complementary snackies at locations throughout the area.
