Namu's Dennis Lee Dishes Out the Ramyun

Leave it to Namu chef Dennis Lee to take the SF ramen craze one step further. One step towards fried that is. His ramyun—a Korean version of ramen made with fried noodles (instead of ramen's fresh), plus pork belly, egg, and kimchi—is the new must-eat at the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market.  (Fifty bowls are made every week and they sell out fast, so get there early.) We spoke to Dennis about his new soup on a recent Saturday morning as he stirred stock and assembled bowls.

Market Watch: What Namu's Dennis Lee Will Cook With Winter Produce

Last year when we re-launched the Thursday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market we were hoping to create a place where the tastiest, seasonal ingredients would be available to take home in their raw form and would also be showcased on the menus of our prepared food vendors. Many of these chefs and food artisans were familiar to me as regular market shoppers, supplying their restaurant and commercial kitchens with ingredients from Ferry Plaza farmers each week.  This is why brothers Dennis, David and Daniel Lee, the owners and masterminds behind the now highly lauded Namu Restaurant, and devoted farmers market supporters seemed like a perfect fit.

Transported: Muni's Most Scenic Bus Routes

Welcome to "Transported," our new weekly series about getting places in San Francisco, whether you take the bus or the BART, bike or drive. Come here to find the skinny on secret parking spots, the new bike lanes and how to get across town on MUNI without losing your mind.

A lot of us see Muni only as a means to an end, and that's mostly what it is. But that isn't to say you can't enjoy yourself for $2: let Muni take you on some scenic SF tours (sans parking hassles). Below are some of our favorite bus routes. Tell us some of your favorites in the comments.

Outside Lands Lineup: Forget the Bands, What About the Food?

This weekend's Outside Lands lineup has suffered mixed reviews, many bemoaning the lack of standout headliners. Um, obviously they didn't take a look at the list of food vendors. Serious SF food star power! Let's Be Frank, Namu, Yats, Pica Pica Maize Kitchen! But since the festival is all about the, uh, the music, we decided to pair food and bands for the ultimate GG Park experience. Here's what we really think would bring out the flavors this weekend's musical acts.

Twice as Nice: 4505 Meats and Namu now at the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market

A few weeks back there was a bit of scuffle regarding the ousting of Aidell's from the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market (hey—it's San Francisco—we take our drama where we can get it). Now that the dust has more or less settled, we have  good news about two vendors that will be joining the weekend roster: 4505 Meats and Namu.

The Year In Review: Food Trends of 2009

Oh 2009, we hardly knew ye. But now with (gulp) exactly two weeks left in this year and this decade, it's time to look at the food trends of 2009.

The 2009 Burger Bonanza: Namooooo Spices It Up

Welcome to the 2009 Burger Bonanza wherein two girls eat 20 of the city's best burgers, on the path to burger enlightenment. The 10 best will then be chosen to be featured—in ranking order—in 7x7's September magazine issue. Burgers must fit our "fancy burger" parameter: made with beef and available as part of the regular dinner menu at upscale restaurants in SF. Beyond that, we're open to suggestions, which we hope you will leave in the comment box below!
